PRP RIDGE REGIMENT BAND

The Pride of Pleasure Ridge Park

PRACTICE LIKE YOU NEVER WON, PERFORM LIKE YOU NEVER LOST.

WELCOME to the Pleasure Ridge Park High School Band

program!

The band program is one of the premier organizations at Pleasure Ridge Park High School. Through the combined efforts of our staff, students, administration, parents and community, the PRP band program continually strives for excellence in music education and performance. Students may participate in a variety of musical ensembles, including concert band, pep band, jazz band, percussion ensemble and the award winning Ridge Regiment Marching Band. In addition to the many performing opportunities, band students will have opportunities to travel and perform in a variety of local, regional, and national locations. Past trips include New York City, Florida and Chicago. We are very proud to represent Pleasure Ridge Park High School and the Pleasure Ridge Park community in all of our musical endeavors.

HISTORY

The PRP band has a long and successful tradition of musical excellence. However, the bands membership and quality began to decline in 2001. By 2006, the band's membership had dwindled to less than 20 students. It was in 2006 that Ms. Debra Burnell-Wise became band director at PRP. It was at this point the band program started the revitalization process. Beginning with only 13 members, the band grew in size to over 40 members the following year. Numbers have continued to grow each year since then, with 100 members in 2011. Along with growth in membership, the band has excelled musically, receiving consecutive Distinguished ratings at KMEA District Concert Band festival since 2007. The award winning Ridge Regiment Marching band has been a Mid States Band Association Finalist for the past two years, placing 7th in 2019. In addition to these accomplishments, we have had many student selections to all county band, Morehead band clinic, Southwest Louisville Honor Band and the Jefferson County All Star Marching Band. Since 2007, 9 students have gone on to pursue a degree in music education.
